Yesterday I attended a Learning Summit sponsored by SAANYS and NYSCATE. The title of the Summit, Digital Leadership 101 and Beyond. The Summit invited educational leaders to learn how “the educational landscape is changing as a result of continuous advances in technology and a changing learner.” Eric Sheninger (@NMHS_Principal) engaged us in a Keynote address on Digital Leadership: Changing Paradigms for Changing Times.  This was preceded and followed by a series of workshops, like:

I was there to listen and lead a workshop on Ditching Textbooks for Digital Curriculum: Capitalizing on OERs and Web-based Media:

How can we capitalize on Open Education Resources (OERs) and web-based media to engage students in learning? Participants will learn about:

  1. OERs as alternatives to textbooks; and how they can be used to lower costs and broaden the use of alternatives while maintaining instructional quality;
  2. Web-based tools that are available to publish a variety of instructional materials and media, like an instructional video, a lesson plan written in text, or a recording of a lecture; and the best way to organize these resources for easy student access; and
  3. How to find, edit and “mix and remix” resources, and the role of digital copyrights, including free models of distribution, types of licenses, and the importance of copyrights.

Thank you to all of the participants! It was great to engage in the conversation about OERs and discuss how they fit into your educational culture. All of the resources for the session can be found at: The Leading Learning Wiki.
